Nathan Buchanan was born in a tiny suburb of Chicago, Illinois, but grew up in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended West Jordan High School and got a funny-looking black hat as a consolation prize. Jumping right into college, he started pursuing an academic career in computer science, but found that to be very, very boring.

Luckily, the University of Utah offered a program where students could design their own major, and Nathan found his niche in computer animation. He finally graduated May of 2004. He is currently finishing up the film festival rounds with his senior project, a computer animation titled "Unwelcome", which has so far won several awards.
